How Can It Be?
Written Nov. 13

How can a robe washed in red blood
Come out shining clean and white
How can I fall on the Rock
To be healed through my brokenness?
How can a God of might and glory
Inhabit the darkness and the night
Why is our freedom only found
In chains of slavery to Christ?

How can one be born again
A servant be the greatest?
How can it be, in dying we live
In giving we all receive?
Why is the toughest surrender
The most victorious battle?
How could our eternal God
Die the death that we deserve?

How can it be
I don't understand
Only by faith can I see
That God's weakness
Is stronger than Samson
His foolishness wiser than Solomon.

Original version
How can a robe washed in red blood
Come out shining clean and white
How can a yoke made for working
Be restful, easy and light?
How can a God of might and glory
Inhabit the darkness and the night
Why is our freedom only found
In chains of slavery to Christ?

How can the strength and might of God
Be made perfect in my weakness?
With what wisdom and perfect love
He mixes mercy and justice!
How can I fall on the Rock
To be healed through my brokenness?
How could Jesus be just like me
Yet revealing God's holiness?

How can one be born again
A servant be the greatest?
How can ti be, in dying we live
In giving we all receive?
Why is the toughest surrender
The most victorious battle?
How could our eternal God
Die the death that we deserve?

How can it be
I don't understand
Only be faith can I see
That God's weakness
Is stronger than Samson
His foolishness wiser than Solomon.
