Growing Pains

Father why do I have to grow up?
I remember playing in the backyard
we always won the battles unscarred
but now life ain't so perfect
beneath my fantasy window I reflect
reality shatters my dreams one by one
thorns invade my bed of roses

I wanna be a dreamer child
trusting in my Father's care
innocent, simple, and undefiled
confident He'll carry me anywhere

Father I really like growing up
it's fun to be free and independent
strong and confident, it's evident
that I forget my dependence on You
then duties call, my time is hurried
my daring dreams for you are buried
midst the mass of important matters

Jesus said little children
are His kingdom
humble children have true freedom
to become as a child is real wisdom

Father why do I have to grow us?
I wanna be a dreamer child
dreaming daring dreams for You
Father let me grow up into childhood
