Videoconferencing: Discover the Possibilities
If you haven't heard about the videoconferencing equipment installed in your district, or if you have heard about it and want to know more, this session is for you. Come learn about videoconferencing and the ways it can enhance the learning in your classroom. Videoconferencing offers opportunities such as connecting to students outside your school for projects, visiting places like the Museum of Tolerance and the Center for Puppetry Arts, and bringing guests to your students like Senator Levin or your favorite children's author.

Cross-School Collaboration Planning
Ever thought about doing a project where students share or debate information with students at another school? Now it can be done with videoconferencing! Come meet with other teachers to plan projects sharing speeches, debating election issues, practicing foreign languages, practicing interview techniques, and more. Projects from last year included Michigan Week for 4th grade and Read Across America for all grade levels.

Workshops & Handouts: Credit or Series Classes

Project Based Learning with Multimedia
(16-30 hours) Participants will learn to transform conventional course work into project-based, technology-rich curriculum. Teachers will work together to develop instructional designs that include: multidisciplinary curriculum, student decision making, collaboration, real-world connections, research, measures of student accomplishment, and multimedia applications. Multimedia choices for this course include iMovies, HyperStudio, web pages, PowerPoint, KidPix, digital cameras, and scanners. Basic computer knowledge including word processing and web searching skills required.

Technology Planning
(16 hours) This course is for district technology teams who are updating their technology plans to receive state and federal funding. The whole district technology team ("techies," curriculum and building representatives) should commit to meeting for each date. Participants should attend from their high school distance learning room. However, the Feb. 8th date will be held ONLY at the ISD as the session will feature an emerging technologies open house.

Office in the Classroom
(16-30 hours) Participants will learn to integrate MS Office 97 in their classroom instructions. Teachers will acquire the technological skills to produce projects to integrate into the curriculum. The following will be emphasized: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Office 2000 users welcome!

HyperStudio Academy
(16 hours) Through an interactive instructional mode, participants will create a multimedia presentation in HyperStudio. Participants must apply in teams of teacher and a student in grades 3-12. Basic computer skills required.

Web Design Academy
(16 hours) This course covers creating school and classroom web pages.

Classrooms Alive!
(16-30 hours) Participants will learn to integrate various technologies in their classroom instruction. Teachers will acquire the technological skills to produce multimedia and Internet projects to integrate into the curriculum. The following technology will be emphasized: HyperStudio (multimedia), Claris HomePage (web authoring), and PowerPoint (presentations).

Engaged Learning with Technology
(16 hours) Learning with Technology is about enhancing teaching and learning through the use of technology. Course participants will learn to create instructional activities that use technology to promote engaged learning and improved student learning. Participants should have some experience using the Internet, wordprocessing and other software.

(16 hours) These classes focus on using the Internet in the classroom. Internet Lessons; Internet Projects; Internet Research; Advanced Internet; Web Design

Workshops & Handouts: Online Classes

Technology in the Early Elementary Classroom
Wondering how to use technology in K-3 classrooms? Learn how to use digital cameras and KidPix in the classroom. Lots of practical classroom ideas will be shared.

WebQuests
(30-40 hours) This course is taught online for eight weeks. A WebQuest is "an inquiry?oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web." Design and create a WebQuest for your students by collaborating online with another teacher(s). Participants will be required to dedicate a minimum of 4-5 hours per week to this class. This course was recognized as an exemplary online class.

Technology Tools for Literacy
(16 hours) This course focuses on the effective use of technology, mainly the Internet, in teaching literacy. Participants will create a hotlist, treasure hunt, or webquest for use in teaching trade books and other literature.

Internet in the Curriculum
(30-40 hours) This course focuses on the effective use of the Internet in the classroom. Course modules include: Effective search strategies, Internet lesson plans, Internet projects, email in the classroom, newsgroups and listservs, Internet research, webquests, advanced Internet skills, and creating web pages.

Classroom Projects with Word and Inspiration
Wondering how you can integrate technology in your writing projects other than just writing papers? In this session, you'll learn about some unique projects you can have your students create using a word processor and/or Inspiration, a brainstorming tool.

iMovie
(6 hours) This workshop includes using a digital camcorder, editing and publishing desktop movies using iMovie, and creating classroom projects.

KidPix in the Elementary Curriculum
(4-6 hours) KidPix is a wonderful drawing and presentation tool especially designed for K-4 students. Come see how your students can create curriculum-based projects and presentations.

Writing Workshop with Inspiration
(2 hours) Inspiration is the standard software for brainstorming, prewriting, and diagramming. Help your students learn how to organize their ideas before they write.

Using FileMaker Pro 5
(10 hours) FileMaker Pro is a database for both PCs and Macs that can assist teachers in organizing materials, keeping track of students, and creating online activities. The first day of this session will focus on using FileMaker Pro as a classroom management tool. The second day we will put the database online and how it can be used in the classroom and school district for managing information.

Multimedia for Media Specialists
(10 hours) Learn PowerPoint, basic HyperStudio, KidPix Studio, Internet integration, digital cameras and scanners. Share ideas on being the technology leader in the school. Basic computer skills required.

The One Computer Classroom
(2 hours) Learn about software and management ideas for using technology in your curriculum when you have limited access in your classroom.

(6 hours) A fast paced exploration of curriculum projects for these two software packages.

Beginning MACs for Teachers
(6 hours) Covers an introduction to microcomputers, getting around your Mac, file management, Internet, and teacher tools. For teachers new to computers.

Beginning PCs for Teachers
(16 hours) This workshop is for teachers new to computers. Participants will start with the basics and develop fundamental skills throughout each session. Sessions include:
Intro. to Microcomputers, Beginning Windows, Windows Explorer: File Management, Using Netscape or Internet Explorer, Email using Eudora, Classroom Software and The Computer as a Teacher Tool.
