Who causes the suffering then?

     It all began in heaven before the beginning of the world. Lucifer, (AKA Satan, dragon, serpent, devil - see Revelation 12:7-12) wanted to be above God. Because of his pride in his beauty and intelligence, he thought he did not get what he deserved. (Ezekiel 28:1-19 and Isaiah 14:12-15) He rebelled against God's gracious government. This is how sin and suffering originated.

     After Lucifer was cast out of heaven, he tempted Adam, as he tempts others to lie and murder and cause suffering. (John 8:44)
