I've heard that hell is what we make of this life while we're on earth.
This idea is not found in Scripture. It comes from what people think hell is - having a bad time. If that is all it is, yes, it could be on earth. But the Bible says that Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15, NKJV. So death, the grave (the whole notion of death and burial) and all who have rejected God's grace are destroyed in the lake of fire.
So where does this fire come from?
