Activities for Qatar

Language Arts

  • Visit ArabNet - Qatar and read about the people who live there. What percent of the people were not born in Qatar? How do you think this might affect the country?
  • Visit the State of Qatar and look at the pictures. (This site is slow because it is located in Qatar, but it is well worth the wait! The page includes video clips). What do you think it would be like to live there? What would you like to see?
  • Visit the State of Qatar and listen to the national anthem. What does it make you think of?

Social Studies

  • Visit ArabicNews.com and see if there is any recent news about Qatar. Write a summary of the news for your class. If there isn't, check out the food & recipes to see what Arabic people like to eat. What would you like to make and taste?
  • Visit ArabNet - Qatar and read about the discovery of oil. How has this affected life in Qatar? Read about Housing to see an example of how the government helps its citizens.
  • Visit Atlapedia Online and look at the maps of Qatar and surrounding areas. Also look at the map at ArabNet - Qatar and this one from the CIA Factbook. What countries surround Qatar? What is the capital of Qatar? What bodies of water are around Qatar and where are they (North, south, etc)? What is the name of land that is shaped like Qatar?
  • Visit ArabNet - Qatar and find out how Qatar is ruled? How are the rulers similar?

Math

  • Visit the State of Qatar and look at the figures about education. At which level does the government have the most number of classrooms? How many students per teacher were there in 1995 at the intermediate level? How many students per teacher are there in your school? How many more or less students per teacher are there in your school compared to Qatar?
  • Challenge. Look at the other figures on the page above and make up your own questions for your classmates.
