Activities for China

Language Arts

  • Visit Chinese Calligraphy: Language as Art a project by elementary school students. There's lots to learn here! What direction do the Chinese read? See if you can read the number and write it down before you see the answer (look under drawing). Look at the facts about China and figure out which "animal" year you were born in. Imagine you have a Chinese friend. How would they describe you as being like that animal?
  • Visit China: Beyond the Great Wall and take a tour through the gallery. If you were going to create a gallery about your country, what pictures would you take?
  • Also visit China Vista and look at the tours and the jokes in the China experience.

Social Studies

  • Visit The Silk Road. What is the silk road? Why was it important to China?
  • Visit Chinese Calligraphy: Language as Art a project by elementary school students. Look at the China facts and study the map. What is the capital of China? Name the four main rivers that flow through China. Notice where 3 of the rivers begin. What kind of land form do you think is in central China? Visit this map to check your answer. What countries surround China? Write what you think it would be like to live in such a large country with only one time zone.
  • Visit China: Beyond the Great Wall and take a tour through the Focus on China. Write a paragraph about something you learned.

  • Visit China: Beyond the Great Wall and take a tour through the Focus on China. Look under culture. In 1991, how many people in China were students, counting primary school, high school, university and graduate school?

Art

  • Visit Chinese Art Forms and look at the different pictures. Print some papercuts and color them, or try to make one yourself!

Bible

  • Visit this symbolism page and learn about the beliefs of the Chinese. Is there anything similar to our beliefs? What can we pray for?
